Do I need data recovery?
It really depends on how valuable is your lost data.
Firstly, check to see if you really need data recovery as it could just be a simple problem so you may just overcome it by following the DIY data recovery guide.
For instance, if you have deleted some files, you can use our free data recovery tools to undelete and recover the data. If you have problem with the partitions or wrongly formated or corrupted volume, you could try our Data Recovery Express Shareware to see if it helps.
If nothing works out, then you should decide if you can retrieve the data from any other alternative sources. If the backup data is incomplete or not up-to-date, it may just be a simple process of re-keying in some of the lost data with minimum effort so you can avoid the high cost of recovery service.
If all these do not work out, then you will have to consider data recovery seriously with a budget in mind. The budget in turn depends on the kinds of failure. Generally, disks with logical failures will cost less to recover than those with physical failures. For disk with typical read write head crash, if you do not have a budget exceeding S$1K, it may not be feasible for you to pursue this route.
